Great Scot SourcingIt is difficult to travel through the old industrial heartlands of Britain and not be struck by the collapsed legacy of our traditional manufacturing industries. Throughout the 20th Century, under the guise of ‘economic modernisation’, the textile industry was one of the hardest hit, and the communities that served these industries suffered, deeply.

The few remaining mills had to innovate and adapt to remain viable in the global marketplace, and in doing so, they found competitiveness through premiumising quality and consistency.

For this reason, Great Scot actively and consciously supports small, family-run tweed mills, throughout the British Isles.

For Great Scot, this means that every single metre of cloth that we use in our clothing is of a quality and refinement that befits only the finest luxury apparel. We are proud to be a part of their recovery.

All Great Scot garments are meticulously engineered in Scotland, and proudly manufactured throughout the British Isles.

Great Scot Supports The Campaign for Wool

The Campaign for WoolGreat Scot is proud to support The Campaign for Wool. The Campaign for Wool is a global endeavour initiated by its patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural, renewable and biodegradable benefits offered by the fibre.

Since its launch in 2010, The Campaign for Wool has influenced a new demand for wool on an international scale, and its efforts have seen an outstanding threefold increase in the price farmers receive for their wool.

Great Scot is a signatory of The Dumfries House Declaration

Great Scot supports the Dumfries House DeclarationThe Dumfries House Declaration is a document created in conjunction with The Campaign for Wool and the International Wool Textile Organisation (IWTO). This document seeks to become the recognised standard of best practice in the wool industry.

As a signatory, Great Scot is committed to abiding by the principles outlined in the declaration.

This means that the wool we choose to use in our products, as well as being a 100% natural and renewable resource, is also welfare assured through the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare (as set forth by the World Organisation for Animal Health):

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst
2. Freedom from discomfort
3. Freedom from pain, injury or disease
4. The freedom to express normal behaviour
5. Freedom from fear and distress

At Great Scot, we support an environmentally responsible, sustainable and commercially viable wool industry.

Elegant Style, without Cruelty

At Great Scot we know that animal fur looks best - on it's animal.

With 21st Century advances in manufacturing, it is our opinion that there is simply no justification for using farmed animal fur for trinkets or decoration. We choose to use Faux-Fur. So, we only source the finest and most luxurious faux-fur available.

We ensure the integrity of provenance of our faux-fur through working personally and directly with manufacturers where we have physically walked the production floors and have observed that the best practices and highest standards are applied.

Great Scot is proudly focused on Sustainability

Being environmentally conscious is one of our core values.

We lovingly prepare, carefully wrap and accurately ship your purchase – fast! We want your delivery to be a charming and memorable part of your shopping experience with us. But our preferences for your experience needn’t 'cost the earth'. We recently upgraded our products so that we can assure you that our packaging ink is soy-based (biodegradable), and our tissue and cardboard are completely acid-free and FSC Certified. This means that you can be confident that our packaging is sourced from forests that are managed in an environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable manner.

Added to this, where we use air-freight services to deliver our international orders, we choose carbon neutral shipping solutions that offset the transport emissions. This helps us to reduce our carbon footprint.

You can be sure that today and every day, we are committed to making socially responsible choices by sourcing everything we buy and make with an environmentally-friendly ethos in mind.

As a company, we are always looking for ways to make our style sustainable in an environmentally responsible way. Wherever we have a choice, you can be sure that we will always take the decision, which best serves our environmental, social and cultural responsibilities.
