NON-MED FACE MASKS & McSNOODS

We are very proud of the Great Scot Face Covering Project! We have given away thousands free to front line workers, while keeping our junior seamstresses busy working during these difficult times. The masks/McSnoods are all made locally in Moray in Scotland in our Seamstress Training Program. We are delighted to offer an environmentally conscious item as an alternative to throwaway products which damage our planet. More than this, it is satisfying that we have a Made in Scotland/Britain label which we have now shipped to 76 countries. 

 

DO YOU MANUFACTURE IN BRITAIN?

Yes - and we’re passionate about it! We are careful to use only British family owned mills where tweeds and tartans are woven traditionally.

WHAT ARE THE MASKS/McSNOODS MADE OF?

These washable, registered tartans are from our performance tartan range. This is an extremely high-quality, woven rayon blend.

We added a stain resistant finish. Both the masks and the McSnoods are beautifully lined with our luxury, silky-soft Great Scot branded lining. This adds to the luxury feel of the styles making them a wonderful gift.

The McSnoods are backed with a super soft lycra which is breathable, extremely soft and comfortable.  This allows for a gentle stretch - and if you don't like elastic ties or ear loops, this style is a welcome alternative.

Most importantly though, the coverage and density of the coverings are excellent.

FACE MASK: ELASTIC ADJUSTABLE TIES - TELL ME WHY?

While we all become accustomed to this new accessory, we are finding that you have developed strong preferences! Now, around 90% of our customers are opting for elastic ties that they can cut/tie/loop or wrap around to suit their particular head shape. We leave the elastic ties open for you to wear, tie, style them as you wish. When tied to your liking just snip the excess and it need never be adjusted again.

If you are unsure you might consider the following feedback we have received:

DO THE MASKS HAVE METAL AROUND THE NOSE?

No, we our masks don't have any metal or plastic in or on them.

WHAT TARTANS ARE AVAILABLE?

The following tartans are available in this non-wool range. Browse those tartans HERE However, if you don't see your tartan there we can of course make your face covering (and lots of other beautiful items) from our vast range of registered wool tartans. Simply contact us and we'll happily make from any one of a thousand tartans as a custom product, especially for you.

WHAT ABOUT SIZES?

Thanks to your superb feedback we now have a one-size-fits-most face mask which is generous yet comfortable. The pleating allows you to ‘open’ the mask and enjoy plenty of coverage or, keep it pleated and narrow. It’s up to you.

The elastic ties are generous too so if you have either an impressive Highlander's beard or a dainty wee face you'll have plenty of fit options. 

DO YOU MAKE CHILDREN'S SIZES?

Yes. We make a smaller size for children but please do note that scientific guidelines suggest that children under 2 should not wear a mask. Just let us know in the comments box on the checkout page.

HOW SHOULD I WASH MY MASK?

The Covid-19 virus is killed by using soap and water. We recommend that you machine wash your mask/McSnood (in a cycle which is 20 minutes or more) using your usual laundry detergent and a little anti-bacterial fluid such as Dettol. Please don't put it in the tumble drier. Instead dry it flat and finish by gently pressing with a steam iron (tartan only) to further sanitise it and of course to keep it looking very smart indeed. We supply further instructions along with your purchase.
